finish line in sight

Senator Obama will make his closing arguments in Ohio today. I'm sure he will say this election is not about who loves America more. He's not going to say it's about socialism - or COMMUNISM, for the love of god that really is what Palin is spouting now - but about turning this country around.

I'm on the edge of my seat. Can't start the day without looking at Pollster.

It's crazy, but it's like I finally have a voice again.

Without it being stifled by zealots on the far right who preach fiscal conservatism - while presiding over the biggest increase in government in 8 years. And they are the ones who say liberals will "tax and spend." Come on!

These folks talk morality on one hand - the government would ideally make reproductive choices for women and stop gay couples from being married - and rail against socialism on the other, saying the Democrats would give the government more control over our lives.

Then they RIDICULOUSLY spout that liberalism would hand our enemies the key to the country. As if, for some strange reason, Democrats don't love America. We love, oh I don't know, France or something? And don't forget we'd take away your right to bear arms and legislate Mandatory Hug-A-Tree Day.

Maybe all these people are just way pissed because they make over $250,000 a year and would get tax increases in a perfect-world Obama administration. I wish I had the problem. But this year, for me and hundreds of thousands like me, it's not about that, or all those fringe causes the Karl Roves and the Rush Limbaughs think are so damn important.

It's about the economy. It's about the war. It's about changing healthcare. It's about transforming our disastrous "with us or against us" foreign policy so the world no longer hates our collective guts.

John McCain is a hero. There's no doubt. I used to think he was great. Sarah Palin, whether the old consignment shop version or the new Valentino variety, is simply not even close to ready. Maybe we'll see her in 2016.

If you're still undecided, you've been living in a box. But here are a few things to consider:

--------------------------------

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Um, Ayers and Acorn? Not even a comparison.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

Oh, and I already voted. Slapped my absentee into the mail box WITH AUTHORITY in late September. Do it. Do it.

I'm LEEEEEAAAANING....

Probably won't work.

We are the state that voted out Tom Daschle for being too darn powerful, you know.

Yeah, I still don't get the Daschle thing. I could understand it if he was a punk. But he was Tom Daschle, for God's sake. That's like canning Mr. Robinson.
