One more year
So every year on his birthday (today!) I post about my little brother, Nate.
He passed away back in 2003 - and I usually write something about the car crash, or maybe a funny anecdote from growing up with him.
Not this time. Today I woke up to the sound of birds outside my window. It was such a beautifully unexpected sound (SD has been a frozen tundra lately). But whaddya know? This morning, birds.
Abbey crawled in next to me about 6:30am and we listened together in the dark. It was a great way to start the day. (Later Eric stampeded in, hollering, and no more birds after that.)
He whispered later; "Mom. I bet they were just finding food. Then they went back to their shelter. You know, six more weeks of winter?"
So in honor of spring - and how much I loved my brother - found this Flickr slideshow on the subject.
IMAGE: Kristie took this shot last month of a cardinal checking himself out in her rearview mirror. I've since thought she should submit it to some photo contest - but until she does, thought I would use it for this post.
Here's to spring!
